YAY IT’S MY OFF-DAY TOMORROW!
The only thing that got me through the day was reminding this to myself constantly while I worked. The anticipation I felt was the same as when it was my last day of work at my previous two companies after working there for a couple of months.
But it’s only my second day of work here, and it’s just one day off.
Man I feel like a maid.
My first day of work was terrible. I was scheduled from 11-7.30pm and spent the whole day standing outdoors tending to the condiments counter. So I stood for about eight hours straight, refilling ketchup, cutlery and even cups for the drink dispenser. It rained three times and because I was outside all the while, I got drenched three times, and then dry again under the sun.
The rain here is crazy. Like you can actually see the direction of the rain because the winds blowing it are so strong. Hurricane-like, actually. And it just comes down on you without warning, there’s no such thing as a drizzle here – it’s either sunny or it pours. Like, “poof!”, suddenly it starts pouring.
I felt so pathetic and tragic having to work alone in the rain that when I went back, I started crying with Dorene. Her job’s pretty bad too and she almost called the international coordinator to request for a transfer. We went down to the guys’ room and binged on ice-cream and beer.
Today was much better because I was positioned to do the front line which was refilling the food for the buffet trays. At least I had people to talk to and shelter to stand under.
Typing is really painful for me because I broke two of my nails while trying to lock the drink dispenser, my left hand feels kind of starched and stiff because it’s been touching bleach solution all day, and the tips of my fingers are visibly burnt and reddish because I had to carry hot hot trays with my bare hands. And when I mean hot, I mean like 165 degrees hot. OUCH.
I must treasure and enjoy every single second of my off-day tomorrow! I’m so glad Mei’s off with me. Yippee. I’m going to do my chores and catch up with people at home then I’m going to shop till I drop! Must definitely make all my work worth it and get good buys!
